June 2009 - DOE NETL's 2009 Fuels Peer Review

CPCPC was selected for review at NETL’s 2009 Fuels Peer Review Meeting. Conducted annually, these independent reviews help NETL guide and redirect the as needed. The Principal Investigators for the selected projects are asked to summarize the status of the research, accomplishments, and future planned activities.

DOE Power Point Presentation

In February, Bruce Miller, CPCPC Director, gave a presentation detailing the activities of CPCPC. Immediately after the presentation, the review panel, assembled by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) discussed and scored the project. ASME then provided a written evaluation. Their comments included recommendations and action items.

A response was then prepared for DOE listing the actions we will take to meet their recommendations. In order to meet these recommendations, we have brought in a summer intern, Stephanie King, who is a recent Penn State graduate in Advertising and Public Relations. She will be writing project summaries and helping with various other tasks.

During our fall meeting in October, Bruce will give a more detailed summary of the peer review. At that time, he will also be asking members for help with some of the action items. In addition, the information that was provided to DOE, including the CPCPC presentation, and ASME’s recommendations, is posted in the Members section of the Web site.

February 2009 - We’d like to thank all of the executive council members for the time and work they have dedicated to the Consortium over the past year.

Thank you to outgoing members Frank Derrick, Rodney Andrews, and Peter Stansberry, whose terms expired in December, as well as Joe Stoffa, who has stepped down from the Council to accept employment with DOE NETL. Your work in the past year was very much appreciated. Thank you also to current members, Barbara Arnold, John MacKay, Robert Wombles, Paul Painter and John Zondlo, for your continued assistance with CPCPC.

As CPCPC moves into its eleventh year, we do not expect to hold elections to fill vacant positions. Since we do not anticipate any further DOE funding, we will not have a need to review proposals and select projects this year. If for any reason, we do receive additional funding in the future, we will hold elections at that time to fill the four positions. As we receive more information in the next few months, we will keep you updated.
