Development of Commercial-Scale Clean Energy Technologies through Research
Babcock & Wilcox (B&W) has a long history of investing in the research and development of clean energy technologies. This presentation will highlight B&W’s ongoing R&D efforts in the areas of advanced low-NOx burners, oxy-coal combustion, chemical looping, biomass combustion, emissions control, post-combustion CO2 capture, and others. Specific examples of promising technologies that had been successfully scaled up for commercial offering and installation will be described.
Hamid Sarv is the Assistant Director of the Babcock & Wilcox Research Center, where he has worked since 1988. Over the years, Hamid has led several major R&D programs in combustion and emissions control areas ranging from laboratory-scale research to pilot plant testing. In many cases, these programs have resulted in the successful development and commercial deployment of low-emissions and energy efficient power generation components by B&W. Hamid received his PhD in mechanical engineering from Drexel University. He is a registered Professional Engineer, and he holds 12 patents in the combustion and emissions control fields. Hamid has also co-authored numerous technical papers on combustion fundamentals, NOx control, and CO2 sequestration.
