OMV E&P, a mid-size oil and gas producing company (daily production 300,000 boed), is operating a medium viscous oil field in Austria which contained initially about 160 mn barrels of oil. Owing to the heterogeneity of the field and the in-situ oil viscosity of about 20 cP, only 26 % of the oil originally in place has been produced from 1951 until now. To increase oil recovery in this super-mature field, polymer flooding has been identified as potential enhanced oil recovery method. The presentation will cover the screening process, laboratory experiments, the field test and economics of a full-field implementation of polymer flooding.

Speaker Bio: Torsten Clemens worked in Shell on various reservoir engineering topics such as recovery of heavy oil, fractured reservoirs and EOR. In 2005, he joined OMV E&P as Senior Reservoir Engineering Adviser. He (co)-authored more than 50 technical papers. In 2010, he received the SPE Regional Award for Reservoir Description and Dynamics. He is the chairman of the IEA EOR Initiative.
