GSTC Spring Meeting
The spring meeting for the Gas Storage Technology Consortium was held in San Diego, CA on February 21-22, 2006. Over 50 people attended the two-day meeting to hear presentations from 15 project requests. The Executive Council met immediately following the close of the general session and approved eight projects for co-funding for a total of $887,027.
Projects co-funded by GSTC in 2006
The GSTC Executive Council committed $887,027 to co-fund eight projects for 2006 at the GSTC meeting in San Diego. Since inception in June 2004, the GSTC has co-funded 18 projects totaling $2.67M. The eight projects recently selected include:
- Brine String Integrity-Case History Survey and Model Evaluation - PB Energy Storage Services
- Predicting and Mitigating Salt Precipitation- Correlations Company
- Wellbore Cement Bond Integity - University of Texas at Austin
- Technology Feasibility Evaluation of Non-Intrusive Optical Detection, Monitoring and Preliminary Characterization of Casing Cement Leaks for Gas Wells - URS Group
- Protocol Evaluation for Scale Prevention and Remediation in Gas Storage Reservoirs and Formulations - Colorado School of Mines
- Effects of Tensile Loading on the Remaining Strength of Corroded Casing -Kiefner and Associates
- State-of-the-Art Assessment of Alternative Casing Repair Methods - Edison Welding Institute
- Storage Field Wellbore Flow Data Containing Water and Hydrates - Colorado Engineering Experiment Station
Final project reports for 2004 distributed
The final technical reports for the projects that were approved at the February 2004 meeting have been completed. A paper copy as well as an electronic copy have been distributed to all 2004 GSTC full members. A copy of the software from the Gas Storage Field Deliverability Enhancement and Maintenance: An Intelligent Portfolio Management Approach project was included as part of the package. The report included:

- Real Time Well Bore Integrity Monitoring
- Renovation of Produced Waters from Underground Natural Gas Storage Facilities: A Feasibility Study Using Hybrid Constructed Wetland Technology
Dan Driscoll assumes new position
Daniel Driscoll, Project Manager at the National Energy Technology Laboratory for the GSTC has moved to a different position within NETL. Dan will be working with the coal program and will no longer be involved with the oil & gas programs. The GSTC is very appreciative of Dan's help and support with the GSTC formation and operations. The new NETL Project Manager is Timothy Grant. The GSTC welcomes Tim as the new project manager and wishes Dan all the best as he assumes his new duties.

Joint GSTC/AGA Technology Transfer Meeting - San Francisco, CA (October 4, 2006)
The GSTC Technology Transfer Meeting in the western US will be held in conjunction with the American Gas Association (AGA) Underground Storage Committee fall meeting. The GSTC Technology Transfer meeting will be October 4, 2006 at the Serrano Hotel in San Francisco, CA. More details will follow as we finalize our agenda and meeting plans.
Joint PRCI/GSTC/ SWC Technology Transfer Meeting - Pittsburgh, PA (November 8, 2006)
The GSTC Technology Transfer Meeting in the eastern US will be held at the Pittsburgh International Airport Embassy Suites Hotel, Pittsburgh, PA on November 8, 2006. This meeting will be part of a larger set of meetings which will bring together expertise, staff, and members from the Pipeline Research Council International (PRCI) Underground Storage Technical Planning Committee and the Stripper Well Consortium. These meeting dates are:
November 7: PRCI Meeting
November 8: GSTC Meeting
November 9: SWC Meeting
The GSTC will be hosting an exhibit and joint PRCI/GSTC reception on the evening of November 7. The Stripper Well Consortium (SWC) will be hosting an exhibit and joint GSTC/SWC reception on the evening of November 8. The scheduling of back-to-back meetings will expand the cross-fertilization of the two consortia and fit with the GSTC's plan to strengthen the interactions between GSTC, SWC, and PRCI. More details will follow as we finalize these meetings.
GSTC Invoicing
Members which receive funding from the GSTC submit their invoices to Melissa Stine at Penn State. Melissa recently accepted a new position at Penn State. We wish Melissa the very best. Future invoices need to be directed to:
