Although the U.S. currently has the ability to generate up to 40 percent of its electricity from natural gas, the U.S. typically uses only about 20 percent of that capacity – most of the country’s electricity is produced from coal.

Penn State's Advanced Vehicle Team won six awards at the EcoCAR 2 Year One Final Competition May 18 to 23 in Los Angeles.

Eduardo Barrientos, a graduate student working in the EMS Energy Institute's Diesel Combustion and Emissions, served as the graduate research assistant and team leader to the EcoCAR 2 Team.

After 18 years with Penn State University, Dr. André Boehman, professor in the John and Leone Family Department of Energy and Mineral Engineering and leading researcher in engines and fuel science, has accepted a position as a Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Michigan.  Although he’ll be leaving the University in July, Boehman plans to continue to collaborate with Penn State on future projects.

Dr. Alan Scaroni, professor emeritus, energy and mineral engineering in the John and Willie Leone Family Department of Energy and Mineral Engineering, retired in February of this year after thirty years of teaching at Penn State. Most recently, Scaroni served as the associate dean for graduate education and research in the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences, where he oversaw graduate activities for five academic departments and three research institutes.
