On November 12-14, 2013 the EMS Energy Institute hosted the EarthCube DEFORM/COMPRES workshop in Alexandria, VA. The workshop, focused on connections between geoscience and cyberinfrastructure development. Attendees discussed and identified areas where research would benefit from technical, computational, or conceptual cyberinfrastructure developments.

The workshop, which included keynote speakers, small workgroup sessions, and a poster reception, was a large success with over 70 participants. Chris Marone, Penn State, and Jay Bass, University of Illinois led the workshop steering committee.

EarthCube is a partnership between the National Science Foundation’s Directorate of Geosciences and the Divison of Advanced Cyberinfrastructure.
