Last week, delegates from Sungkyunkwan University (SKKU) in South Korea visited Penn State to hold a second workshop to explore research collaborations in fields such as education, engineering, and information sciences and technology.

In 2011 Penn State’s Korea Global Engagement Network’s task force in the Office of Global Programs, identified SKKU as a candidate for a strategic partner institution. An initial workshop was held in June 2013 on SKKU’s Seoul Campus.

Randy Vander Wal, professor, Energy and Mineral Engineering and Materials Science and Engineering, co-hosted the workshop, which was organized through the Office of Global Programs. Vander Wal also attended the meeting to represent the EMS Energy Institute and the EMS Energy Institute Nanomaterials Program.

The SKKU delegation included the Dean of Schools of Engineering, the Head of the SKKU Nanotechnology Institute, and the Head of the SKKU Department of Energy Science.
