The EMS Energy Institute in conjunction with the Eberly College of Science recently held an energy camp for kids in grades five through eight to explore energy topics. About 30 students participated in the camp, which the EMS Energy Institute held for the first time.
Jen Clemmons, a graduate student in the EMS Energy Institute, coordinated the weeklong camp, in which students conducted fun energy experiments and toured various sites around campus. With the help of several students and researchers, students learned about coal and other fossil fuels, electricity, renewable energy, fuel cells, nuclear power and more.

Gary Mitchell, a research associate in the EMS Energy Institute, talks about the formation of coal.
