Delphi, in participation with the U.S. Department of Energy, is developing solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) technology for application in a variety of markets. One potential market is the recovery of unconventional oil and gas from oil shale in the U.S. This presentation outlines the development of Delphi SOFC cells and stacks and discusses the latest results, including key features of the cell and stack developed under the U.S. DOE Solid State Energy Conversion Alliance (SECA) program, progress in demonstrating the technology in the application of unconventional oil recovery, and achievements toward commercialization of the technology.
Rick has 35+ years of experience with General Motors/Delphi and is currently Chief Engineer for Solid Oxide Fuel Cells, responsible for design, development, and manufacturing. Previously, he has managed Materials Engineering, Analysis, and Development groups, supporting valve train components, gasoline and diesel injection systems, air and fuel handling systems, spark plugs, exhaust species chemical sensors, and exhaust product lines. Rick received his B.S. in Metallurgical Engineering from Michigan Technological University and his M.E in Metallurgical Engineering-Materials Science from Carnegie Mellon University. He holds fifteen (15) U.S. patents.
