The EMS Energy Institute maintains a suite of chromatography and spectroscopy instrumentation available to any faculty or student at the University who has a research need. The EMS Energy Institute has a diverse selection of gas chromatography techniques at its disposal. The majority of these technologies are focused on the detection and speciation of complex hydrocarbon mixtures. For example, analyzers can identify specific sulfur and nitrogen compounds in diesel fuels, analyze liquid fuels obtained from coal and biomass conversion processes, or measure the concentration of specific compounds in the emissions from flue gas.
Since many researchers in the University community may be unaware of the capabilities of our analytical facilities, the EMS Energy Institute offers free training for individuals or research groups to educate investigators about analyzer capabilities and appropriate analytical techniques. Researchers may schedule a formal training at any time by contacting Dongxiang Wang, email@example.com . In addition, the EMS Energy Institute has two open workshops coming up to learn more about our analytical facilities.

The workshops will be held on Tuesday, April 29 from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. and on Thursday, May 1 from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. These workshops will provide an overview of chromatographic technique and applications as well as information on how chromatography can be a powerful detection tool when used with other techniques, such as mass spectroscopy or high performance liquid chromatography. Following a presentation and discussion, a demonstration will provide researchers with a thorough understanding of our analyzers and how chromatographic technology can be used effectively in research.
