Example 2D NMR Spetrum (Fossil Resin)

This spectrometer is used for structure elucidation studies in compounds containing primarily carbon and hydrogen. The example to the right is a 2-dimensional NMR spectrum comprised of both proton (top) and carbon (left) resonances. Specifically, it is a 2D HMQC experiment designed to provide correlation information between adjacent nuclei. For instance, the carbon resonating at 108 ppm can be seen to correlate with hydrogens resonating at 4.7 and 4.4 ppm, meaning that it has these 2 specific hydrogens attached to it. The sample is a fossil resin from New Zealand.

2D NMR Spetrum
Approximately 500 mg of soluble resin was used to acquire the 2D data set shown here. The time requirement was ~20 hrs.
