Needle Coke Texture

The Nikon Microphot FXA Research Microscope is available for reflected white-light illumination with a range of air objectives giving a range of magnification from 50X to 1000X. This instrument has a microprocessor controlled camera system for general characterization as well as a Video camera for image capture. Automated image analysis is provided with the SunOS-based IMAGIST software designed by Princeton Gamma-Tech, Inc. This instrument allows for the quantitative characterization of textural and structural features of oriented polished surfaces. The strong orientation of needle coke in extruded graphite electrodes is important to the electrode's electric conductivity and thermal expansion.
