The SWC held its 2006 spring meeting in State College, PA on April 18-19, 2006 at Penn State’s Nittany Lion Inn. The meeting was open to the industry and was focused on reviewing funding requests to improve the production performance of the nation’s stripper wells. Over 50 people attended the meeting to listen to and review 18 funding requests. The presentations lasted 15-20 minutes and then the attendees had a 5-10 minute Q&A session. The SWC approved $1.2 million to co-fund 9 proposals.
In addition to the funding opportunities, the SWC organized and hosted a panel discussion on industry needs and trends. The SWC would like to thank to following panelists for their participation:
The SWC has approved $7.1 million to co-fund 62 projects since its inception in January 2001. The SWC conducts an annual solicitation for projects. The nine projects recently selected in April 2006 include:
The SWC is very proud of its recently released documentary Independent Oil: Rediscovering America’s Forgotten Wells. Since its release in the fall 2005, the SWC has distributed over 4,000 DVD copies. The 26-minute documentary was recently showcased in the New York State Energy Smart Students Program. Mr. John Holko, President of Lenape Energy and one of the SWC’s founding members, was interviewed about the documentary and for careers in energy. The SWC is very appreciative of John’s long-standing commitment to the Consortium and for highlighting Independent Oil.
The SWC is pleased to announce that it is a platinum-level sponsor of the upcoming 2006 Oklahoma Marginal Well Commission’s Oil & Gas Trade Expo on October 26. The SWC will have several projects showcased at the Expo. The final details for the Expo and SWC’s involvement are in the final planning stage. For more details, visit the Expo website at: http://www.marginalwells.com/MWC/2006_Trade_Expo
After the Oklahoma Oil & Gas Trade Expo, the SWC will host a technology transfer meeting at the Embassy Suites Hotel Pittsburgh-International Airport on November 9. The meeting is still in the planning stage.
This meeting will provide a unique opportunity to network with another industry – the underground natural gas storage industry. The Pipeline Research Council International (PRCI) Underground Storage Technical Planning Committee meeting will be held on November 7 and the Gas Storage Technology Consortium (GSTC) technology transfer meeting will be held on November 8. The SWC will be hosting a joint PRCI/ GSTC/ SWC reception on the evening of November 8. We hope to have the final details of these joint meetings worked out by mid-July.
