Objective: |
To determine through laboratroy and field testing how to optimize the performance of a representative turbodiesel engine technology for operation on CETANERTM, an oxygenated cetane boosting additive for clean burning diesel fuels. |
Approach: |
Laboratory tests will be performed at UC-Berkeley and Penn State using the Cummins B5.9 turbodiesel engine. Field tests will be performed using a Dodge Ram pick-up truck, equipped with the Cummins engine. Performance and emissions will be monitored both in the lab and in the field. Through this database, an optimized set of engine operating parameters will be developed. |
