UCFER Director Dr. Chunshan SongUNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Penn State will lead a University Coalition for Fossil Energy Research (UCFER) that will advance basic and applied research for clean energy in support of the U.S. Department of Energy mission. UCFER will identify, select, execute, review and disseminate knowledge from research that will improve the efficiency of production and use of fossil energy resources while minimizing the environmental impacts and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Penn State Energy Days

May 30, 2018 to May 31, 2018

 

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The third annual Energy Days conference was held on May 30 and 31 at The Penn Stater Hotel and Conference Center. Energy Days was created in an effort to convene the energy expertise of Penn State and develop partnerships to help improve the affordability, sustainability and security of energy in the future. The conference was open to the public and is free for Penn State students, faculty and staff. 

This interdisciplinary event brought together leaders from across the energy spectrum, including members of industry, government, non-profits and academia. Energy Days’ ultimate goal is to create new partnerships that provide results and innovative solutions to energy challenges.

Energy Days brings together leaders from across the energy realm, including members of industry, government, non-profits, and academia. The purpose is to identify and discuss the regional, national, and global energy challenges facing society. In addition to plenary sessions, there will be a series of focused workshops on key topics where specific and compelling outcomes are in reach.

The 42nd International Technical Conference on Clean Energy

June 11, 2017 to June 15, 2017

Joel L. Morrison from UCFER’s Operations Management Team represented UCFER at the 42nd Clearwater Clean Energy Conference in Clearwater, Florida. He presented a paper titled “University Coalition for Fossil Energy Research,” which he co-authored with Bruce G. Miller and Chunshan Song. In addition, Morrison showcased the coalition with a poster in the exhibition hall. The objective of the paper and poster were to promote the coalition, both to universities and industries with interests similar to those of the coalition. This was important as the Industrial Advisory Board is being established and industry participation in supporting coalition research is welcomed.

DOE’s Crosscutting Research Annual Review Meeting

March 20, 2017 to March 23, 2017

The UCFER director, Dr. Chunshan Song, represented UCFER at DOE’s NETL Crosscutting Research Annual Review Meeting held March  20-23, 2017 at the Omni Willima Penn hotel in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Song was a plenary speaker on Tuesday, March 21st. He introduced the UCFER program, provided a brief progress update on the tasks within the statement of project objectives, and presented significant accomplishments to date.

Penn State Energy Days

Energy Days was held on May 29 and 30, 2019, at The Penn Stater Hotel and Conference Center. Energy Days is a two-day conference that brings together professionals working in all areas of energy, including members of industry, government, non-profits, and academia. The goal is to create an opportunity for a diverse range of stakeholders to collaborate.

The purpose is to identify and discuss critical regional, national, and global energy challenges and opportunities for society. Ultimately, the conference looks to create new partnerships to address key research needs and provide innovative solutions to energy challenges.

 

International Geotechnical Symposium

December 14, 2016 to December 17, 2016

Dr. Shunde Yin of the University of Wyoming presented 'Finite Element Solution of Poroelastoplasticity in Strain-softening Porous Media'  at the International Geotechnics Symposium cum International Meeting of Chinese Society for Rock Mechanics and Engineering (CSRME) 14th Biennial National Congress (IGSIM) on December 14-17, 2016 in Hong Kong. The symposium theme was the Causes, Mechanisms and Prevention of Disastrous Soil & Rock Failures.
