The Conference (PCC) will be held virtually September 19-22, 2022.


The PCC is the “premier” annual event focusing on all aspects of coal, energy, environment, and sustainable
development. It provides a unique forum for the in-depth exchange of technical information and policy issues among
all participants from industry, government, and academia throughout the world. Coal remains one of the main
components in the worldwide primary energy mix (oil, natural gas, coal, hydroelectric, renewables, and nuclear).

The Metallurgical Coal Producers Association (formerly the Virginia Coal & Energy Alliance) is a non-profit organization made up of metallurgical coal producers and those who support our producing members’ operations.  Our emphasis is on metallurgical coal, the issues related to it, and the opportunities metallurgical coal brings to our region.  Further, our region is our collective strength.  The association actively advocates and promotes the metallurgical coal industry in the eastern U.S., specifically Central Appalachia.

The mechanism behind one of the first stages of coal creation may not be what has long been thought, according to a team of researchers who found that microbes were responsible for coal formation and production of methane. The finding has implications for methane fuel recovery from some coal fields.
